AI food-tech platform from the Headstarter Fellowship, rebuilt in 2026 into the Dopamine Menu — a zero-decision meal picker for ADHD and autistic adults.
CookyChef, live
Problem
CookyChef began at the Headstarter AI Fellowship in 2024 as an AI food-tech platform — calorie tracking, recipe generation, pantry management. But the barrier its users hit was never features; it was the decision itself. For an ADHD or autistic brain, "what should I eat?" is where meal planning stalls, and every extra option made it worse.
Solution
Rebuilt in 2026 with co-founder Peter Kibet (Spidey Labs) into the Dopamine Menu — a single-purpose tool. One tap returns one meal matched to a saved sensory profile (texture, temperature, energy level), backed by remembered safe foods, object-permanent push reminders, and recipes shown one step at a time. Built in public, shaped by feedback from the ADHD community.
Outcome
Currently in private beta with a small group of active testers validating the core loop before a wider build. The pivot traded a broad feature set for one job done well — taking the decision off the table.
ArchitectureArchitecture
The rebuild is deliberately single-purpose: one tap returns one meal. The architecture optimizes for removing decisions, not adding features — state is a saved sensory profile plus a set of remembered safe foods, and the UI never shows a list where one answer will do.
Single-purpose over feature-rich
The original had calorie tracking, recipe generation, pantry management. The rebuild cut all of it: for an ADHD or autistic user every extra option is friction, so the product does one job.
Sensory-profile matching
Meals match against a saved profile — texture, temperature, energy level — rather than macros, so the one suggestion is one the user can actually eat.
Object-permanent reminders
Push reminders and remembered safe foods hold state the user would otherwise have to, working with the grain of executive-function differences instead of against them.

Outcome
Pitched to investors in early 2024 for $25,000 in seed funding, with a beta running through 2024–2025 while modelling for scale across Kenya. The venture wound down in April 2025 when the VC funding environment collapsed and the seed round did not close.
